1. Joint Venture™

For athletes, inflammation is enemy # one. It delays recovery, increases risk for injury, and produces motivation-killing pain. Thus most athletes and a good percentage of regular exercisers, rely on NSAID’s (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen.
But chronic use of these drugs is associated with serious adverse side effects. A newer NSAID class, COX-2 inhibitors like Celebrex, were thought to reduce the number of adverse events, but instead brought new risks, and one (Vioxx) was banned after (according to the American Heart Association) causing more than 30,000 fatal heart attacks.
